Frequently Asked Questions

Q:

Is it possible to give only read access to some and read/write access to others?

A:

This is possible through the "Options" panel, which is accessible when you perform the "Create Database" command.

In this panel you can require a password for "New + Change Record". Only give the password to those you wish to have access to add, modify or delete records.

Another option is to use the Access Inspector in VarioBuilder. Use the access inspector to define permissions and password for your VarioData databases and your VarioBuilder layouts.

This Inspector is found under the VarioBuilder Tools menu. Choose Extended Access from the Inspector popup. Associate each user with a user group. Click the User button on the Access Inspector to define users and add them to specific user groups.

At the bottom of the panel you have some database-wide options. You may restrict the export, import or the printing of reports. Each feature may either be allowed with a password or simply prohibited.

After setting database-wide options, select individual database elements you wish to protect. In the Inspector set for each group the permissions for that element to be read/write, read only, or invisible.
