Q:
How do I draw PERT charts in Diagram! from TaskMaster files?
A:
You can use Diagram! to generate a PERT chart from a TaskMaster file. You need to be using Diagram! 2.1 or later and TaskMaster 1.5 or later.
TaskMaster 1.5 was shipped with a fourth disk named Filter Services. TaskMaster 1.6 and 1.7 were shipped on CD and included a FilterServicer.service on the CD.
You should install the filter service in either /LocalLibrary/Services (for network use) or in ~/Library/Services (for personal use). Be sure to log out and back in, or do a make_services in a Terminal, so the service will be recognized.
You are now able to open .taskmaster files using the Open from the Document menu in Diagram!. A pert chart will automatically draw a diagram based on dependencies among the tasks. Once you have the PERT chart in Diagram!, it is a fully editable, customizable Diagram! file. The only drawback is that you can't make changes to the PERT chart and read them back into TaskMaster; the filter only works one way.
PERT charts are also referred to as Critical Path Method diagrams.
NOTE: If you are running NEXTSTEP 3.1 or later, or are on Intel hardware, use the regular Filter Services on the disk. If you are running NEXTSTEP 3.0, use the Motorola only services.
