Q:
How does the FASTTRACK filter work that is included in TaskMaster 1.7?
A:
Suppose you have a fasttrack task that was planned to last from 10:00 10/1/94 to 15:00 11/1/94, and you have entered that it actually lasted from 10:00 10/5/94 to 15:00 11/3/94. When you export this task it is exported without the time data so you have 10/1/94 to 11/1/94 as the planned and 10/5/94 to 11/3/94 as the actual.
When TaskMaster reads in this data it defaults all times to 0:00. The start date of an imported task is set with the constraint field. So the task is set to start on 0:00 10/1/94. Since TaskMaster uses work time to determine the length of tasks in planned scenarios it will determine the amount of work time between 0:00 10/1/94 and 0:00 11/1/94 and enter it into the work time field. TaskMaster then calculates the end of the task based on this work time. In this case the result is that the task ends at 17:00 10/31/94. If 10/31/94 were a saturday the task would be calculated to end at 5PM on friday or 17:00 10/30/94.
In the actual scenario the work time does not determine the end date of the task so the start of the task is entered as 0:00 10/5/94 and the end as 0:00 11/3/94. The actual work time field is calculated to be the work time between the start date and the end date. In the actual scenario the work time is only used as a data field and is not used to calculate the end of the task.
