Q:
I keep getting the error message: There are too many users using OmniWeb". I am the only computer in my network.
A:
The OmniWeb free license is a network-wide license number, so, if anyone on the network launches OmniWeb, you will see this message.
OmniWeb has the same licensing scheme as any other Lighthouse software (except the 1 free license), so you can work with it in your own group.
None of Lighthouse's software is sold on a floating basis. It is either per user or per machine (the latter only in the case of university labs.) This is a frequent misunderstanding with our products because we don't tie our license to userid or hostid.
Usually our licensing is sold on a per-user (not per concurrent user) basis. For university pricing we're giving a huge discount and selling these licenses on a per-machine basis instead. (Many university machines have several people logged in throughout the day and it would be very expensive on a per user basis.) So each machine that will run the software needs its own license. In other words, if you have 20 machines that will run the software, you need 20 licenses regardless of how many users use the software.
Only one person is allowed to run with the free license on the whole network. If there is someone else at your university or company running with that free license, it doesn't matter whether they're running on your machine or not. Anyone else who wishes to run it will need to purchase a license.
If you are worried about users in other divisions or departments using your licenses, simply make the application accessible only to the users or machines you wish by doing one of the following:
