Frequently Asked Questions

Q:

What is a proxy server?

A:

You are in a company with a firewall to the Internet that allows no packets through directly. But, you might have a proxy server that you can connect to on your internal net which is secure, trusted and allowed to forward packets through the firewall to other machines. So it acts as a proxy for various services. There is a proxy protocol that allows you to specify what server you wish to talk to and etcetera.
