Frequently Asked Questions

Q:

Whenever I try to use a gopher address (via our proxy) the first g in "gopher" gets lost. For example, if I click on Browser--Open URL and put in gopher://gopher.gsa.gov/00/staff/pa/cic/children/learmath.txt, then I get:

Error 400

Invalid request "opher://gopher.gsa.gov/00/staff/pa/cic/children/learmath.txt" (unknown method)

Is this a server problem or an OmniWeb problem? My proxy is listed in the Preferences panel as:

gopher proxy gopher://ddt.wri.com:8080/

A:

You can't use a gopher server as a proxy server. That is, you can forward gopher requests thru a proxy server but the proxy server has to be an http server.

It should be something like:

gopher proxy http://ddt.wri.com:8080/

Valid for 1.0
