Frequently Asked Questions

Q:

When attempting to retreive a file via http, the file extension is sometimes renamed. Is there a way to control this behavior so that a file will come across with the original extension?

A:

When extensions are changed, it's usually because the server in question is communicating a MIME type to OmniWeb. In this case, it appears that the server is telling OmniWeb that the .fax files are of MIME type TIFF, which causes them to be renamed.

Unfortunately, there is currently no workaround for this. Editing the content.list only changes what happens on the receiving end. If we're receiving it as a TIFF from the server, it will always be treated as a TIFF.

We're trying to figure out ways around this, and as soon as we find something useful, we will happily incorporate it into OmniWeb.
