Frequently Asked Questions

Q:

I'm not getting the same color output as with Netscape. How do I correct this?

A:

Currently, OmniWeb 2.0 gamma-corrects GIF images by default, but doesn't gamma-correct background colors. Gamma-correction makes the midtones of the GIF images look darker, the way they appear on Windows machines.

If you go to "Imaging Preferences" and set the GIF gamma correction to 1.0, the background will match the GIF file.

We recognize this is a problem, but we're not sure what the correct solution is. If we gamma-correct background colors, then JPEG images (which aren't gamma-corrected by default) will not match any more.

You could use a 10x10 GIF as your background, then it would be gamma-corrected the same.
