Frequently Asked Questions

Q:

Where can I get plug-in bundles for OmniWeb 2.0?

A:

You can write your own using the API, which will be available soon.

Available from OmniGroup

"Socks4" is a bundle that allows OmniWeb to speak the Socks (version 4) protocol to a firewall machine. If your site uses Socks you'll need this bundle to talk to the outside world.

"Services" allows administrators to configure OmniWeb to handle specified protocols by launching apps that provide URL opening services. This allows you to open "news:" URLs in the newsreader of your choice. It can also be configured to open "ftp:" URLs in an external FTP program. By default it opens "news:" URLs in Alexandra, a free newsreader, and there is a sample configuration in the README for opening ftp: URLs in Yftp. There are other newsreaders available that should work with this bundle. It is also configurable to allow any other protocol to be handled by any other program that advertises the correct services. For example, if users wish they can now open FTP urls in an external program rather than in OmniWeb's FTP module.

IMPORTANT NOTE:

Plug-in bundles are add on products for OmniWeb 2.0. OmniWeb 2.0 is sold and supported by Lighthouse Design, Ltd. Add-on bundles are available from many different sources and are the support and documentation responsibility of the supplying vendor. If OmniWeb behaves properly when all bundles are removed, you should contact the supplier of the plug-in bundle for assistance.
