Frequently Asked Questions

Q:

How do I set up core files?

A:

Here are the instructions for creating core files:

  1. In Terminal.app, type

    dwrite Workspace CoreLimit 20000000

  2. Create a folder on the local drive called /cores.
  3. Log out and back in.
  4. The next time you crash, look in the /cores folder. There should be a core.xxx file (where xxx is some number.)
  5. Inspect the core.xxx file in the Workspace attributes inspector to see its "Changed" date. This will tell you if it was the correct one (based on the time it was created.)
  6. Check with productname@lighthouse.com BEFORE you email a cores file-they can be several megabytes and could clog our mail distribution system.
  7. Check your /cores folder often and keep it cleaned out. Otherwise it will take up huge amounts of disk space.
