Frequently Asked Questions

Q:

Why does my Print Preview comes out with greyscale text? When previewing files, in either Concurrence or Diagram, that have colored text in them, if you have a black/white printer selected, the color doesn't come out right. If you have a color printer selected, the color looks fine.

A:

Usually this is the result of your printer definition. The printer you have selected in the print panel when you do the preview governs the PostScript output. If you have a greyscale printer selected, the preview makes a grey scale estimation for the color of the text. (Only the text, not the other colors.) You need to select a color printer to get a color printer definition for a correct preview image.

There's some debate at NeXT about what the "right" behavior is. Apparently, someone has modified the text object to display gray when a b/w printer is selected.

If it's the case that you did select a color printer and it previews with gray text, maybe you need a new PPD for the printer. In general, you need to have the correct PPD installed in /NextLibrary/PrinterTypes/English.lproj. If you don't already have the PPD, you can often find it at ftp.adobe.com in the /pub/adobe/PPDfiles/DOS directory.

For Tek printers, they list the following PPD files:

TK200171.PPD 1.3 Tektronix Phaser 200e with 17 fonts v2011.108(2)

TK200172.PPD 1.4 Tektronix Phaser 200e with 17 fonts v2011.108(3)

TK200391.PPD 1.3 Tektronix Phaser 200e with 39 fonts v2011.108(2)

TK200392.PPD 1.4 Tektronix Phaser 200e with 39 fonts v2011.108(3)

TK220171.PPD 1.0 Tektronix Phaser 220e with 17 fonts v2013.113

TK220391.PPD 1.0 Tektronix Phaser 220e with 39 fonts v2013.113

When you download it, install it in /NextLibrary/PrinterTypes/English.lproj, and change the extension from PPD to ppd. Then re-install the printer from PrintManager.
