Concurrence Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Q:

How do I put existing sound files (.snd files or .vox files) into Concurrence as slide sounds?

A:

Existing sounds may be placed into Concurrence documents by copying the sounds from an application such as Sound (found in /NextDeveloper/Demos on your system) and pasting them into the Sound inspector for a slide in Concurrence.

To do this, first open the sound file using Sound.app. In Sound, press the button with the downward-pointing arrow on it to bring up the editing pane. Clicking in the editing pane will place a "cursor" (a narrow vertical gray bar) in the sound view. To copy the sound, choose the Select All command from the Edit menu, and then choose the Copy command from the Edit menu.

Now that the sound is on the pasteboard, you can paste it into Concurrence. To do this:

-Bring up your presentation in Concurrence.

-In the sorter pane of the slide view, click on the slide to which you wish to attach the sound which you've just copied.

-Bring up the inspector by choosing the Inspector item from Concurrence's Tools menu.

-Using the pop-up at the top of the Inspector, select the Attributes Inspector.

-Press the Sound button located in the lower right corner of the Attributes Inspector.

-Make sure that the Sound Inspector's title bar (the bar at the top of the window) is black to indicate that it is the key window. You can do this by clicking once on the title bar.

-Once the Sound Inspector is the key window, click once in the sound view (the large white region of the Sound Inspector's window).

-Choose the Paste command from Concurrence's Edit menu.

Your sound should now be "attached" to the slide.

There is another way to accomplish this, recommended for advanced NEXTSTEP users: pretend to record a sound for a Concurrence slide and then replace the referenced soundfile with the .snd file on the workspace level, inside the document file wrapper.
