When I drag a file or copy/paste a selection into a slide presentation, I still have the option to SHOW LINKS on the EDIT>LINKS menu. These attachments are marked "RESIDENT" in the Attachment Inspector and by definition resident attachments are NOT links (page 154 in the manual). If I show links, all of my attachments appear with the chain link around them. How can I tell the difference between resident and linked attachments??

Actually, all attachments are links. Some are linked to the document wrapper, some are linked outside the document wrapper. A resident link is resident inside the wrapper. All are managed using the NS link manager. Unfortunately, this means there is no way to tell the difference between the two except by inspecting the path in the Attachment Inspector.
